Week 2!!

I lost 2.4 pounds this week!!  I really believe that I did a good job of tracking my points, though I did eat out a lot this week.  I haven’t quite figured out how I want to go about tracking my points when I eat out, but so far I’ve just decided to make the best choices possible.  Tuesday I had Moo Shu Vegetables, Wednesday I had vegetable fried rice (ok, maybe not the best), and last night I had 2 light sushi rolls…. WHOA, clearly I was craving Asian food this week!

This week I also worked out Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday!  I was planning to go to spin this morning, but I have a final project I’ve got to complete before 6PM (and I just started it today).

I’m really proud of myself and I’m really motivated to make various changes to my eating next week.  Life is good!

Wedding Day

As I sit here, watching the royal wedding, I can not wait to be married.  The thought of walking down the aisle towards the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, just makes me so incredibly happy.  Katherine looks breathtaking today (in the type of wedding dress I adore btw) and must be overjoyed to finally marry William.  Last night I had a wonderful talk with my BF about some of our hopes and dreams, and I just love to support him.  He is a true rock in my life and I would do anything to support his dreams and to be a part of them. I get so excited when I think of where we will go and the things we will do.  I really not not wait to be married but first things first, I can not wait to get engaged, to plan a wedding, and to plan our next step.  Until then, I want to stay focused and accomplish the goals I have for this year; losing weight, getting in shape, finishing graduate school, and finding clarity spiritually. I am so excited for my future and more importantly, the future of my BF and our relationship!

AM vs. PM … What’s best?

I love having a gym membership!  Last year, I challenged myself to workout at home in order to save a little dough but by winter, I was itching to be back in the gym.  I first joined the gym at work, but as I work at a university, working out along side my students didn’t always lead to a good workout.  By December 2010, I started researching gyms in the area and decided to join a gym that had a branch next to my home and my job.  Since joining, I have workout 3-4 times during the week days and 1-2 times on weekends.  At 5PM on weekdays, I head strait to the gym from work.  During the winter it was great.  I was able to sleep a little later, work through the day, and then release any anxiety or stress I had gained during the day by going to the gym after work.

This week, my co-worker and I were talking about the benefits of working out before work or after work and it got me thinking… why don’t I work out in the morning.  A number of online articles talk about the benefits of working out in the morning verses the evening:  Learn to Love A.M Exercise , Morning Exercise for Weight Loss, and AM vs PM Workouts.

Tuesday night, I packed my bag with work clothes and set my alarm for 6AM.  I woke up, washed my face, brushed my teeth, put in my contacts, and changed into my gym clothes.  At 6:30 I left for the metro and arrived at the gym around 7:30.  I had a great workout on the elliptical and lifted weighted.  590 calories later, I cleaned up, grabbed some coffee, and headed off to work.  It was a wonderful morning and I felt great!

Washington, DC Sunrise

This morning, I took a spin class at 7AM and got an amazing workout in before work.  I am really loving working out in the morning!  I’ll be perfectly honest though… I’d love to sleep longer, but in all reality, I’m only missing 30 minutes to an hour worth of sleep.  Instead, I am jump starting my metabolism, gaining energy for the day, getting my workout done so that I can do things in the evening, and making myself a priority at the start of the day.  I’m really liking this change to my routine!!

When do you workout?

My Wonderful BF!

I really have the most amazing BF!  He is so supportive of me, even when I’m PMSing!

Last night I went over to his place so that we could catch up on our DVR.  We settled in and made dinner together, chicken sausages and asparagus.  As we cooked dinner my BF continued to say, “I’ll have what you’re having” and “I’ll have exactly what you’re having”.  What he was doing didn’t really hit me until we had dessert.  Half way through the Biggest Loser, my BF got up to serve us some ice cream.  I asked him to serve me a 1/2 a cup, as that was the serving size and the remaining points I had for the day.  A few minutes later, BF walks in with two bowls of ice cream, both with exactly 1/2 cup in them.  It was at that moment that I realized what he was doing.  He was supporting my weight loss efforts by eating the same portions as me and not eating foods different than me.  What he was doing really meant the world to me and it showed me how much he loves and supports me.  I really don’t know what I would do without him!

I love you BF!

Portion Sizes

This weekend, while shopping at the outlets, I came across these super cute bowls… but they were half the size of my regular cereal bowls.  It got me thinking, “how would my eating change if I just used smaller bowls?”.  Sometimes its just habit to fill a cereal bowl to the rim and to eat it all.  Using a smaller bowl will help me to think about my portion sizes and to stick to my weekly points allowance.

This morning I broke out my new bowls and served myself a serving size of cereal.  Had I placed it in my old cereal bowl, it would have looked like nothing, but it in new bowl the cereal filled about 3/4 of the bowl.

Serving sizes can be quite the challenge for me.  Hopefully using bowls like this and even smaller plates will help me to develop better habits and learn moderation.

Where’s my hoodie?

Though we’ve had a few 80 + degree days here in DC this spring, I seem to either be at work or out of town when it’s over 80 degrees.  Today the temperature hit 83 degrees and I was quickly drained emotionally.  Although I love the warmer weather, I am quickly forced to face my size and body weight.  Unlike the fall and winter, I am not able to hide behind my hoodie and yoga pants.  Had I worn that today, I would have fried… instead, I squeezed myself into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.  I was so uncomfortable!!   It just makes me sad to see how uncomfortable I am sometimes in my own body.  I am proud of my weight loss this past week and I hope I can continue to lose!

My BF and I really enjoyed having family in town this week, but we’re both looking forward to getting back to our regular diet and workout routine.  I hope this week is great!

Week 1

I lost 3.6lbs this week!  Yay!

I’m really happy with my first week, even beyond the weight loss.  This week I tracked every day, had family in town, ate out twice, and only made it to the gym twice.  This week helped me to get back into the swing of things, to really watch my portion sizes, and to be one step closer to my goal.

Next week I look forward to incorporating workouts into my daily plan and balances out my meals.  This week I seemed to use the bulk of my points after 5PM.  I want to balance my points out so that I’m not so hungry when I get home from work.

Off to the outlets today with the BF’s parents, BF and my sister 🙂  Then I need to buckle down and work on my final project.

How did you do this week?
